Interviewing models

I created this website so that I can display select and agreed upon images of photoshoots I’ll be doing this year. I also want to write about the people that I photograph. In a way, it’ll be like an interview during a photoshoot. I think that some topics during photoshoots will work well during the shoot, but other topics will run against the grain of photoshoots, so some interviews will be done before the photoshoot at places like along the Greenbelt, at a coffee shop, or at the Boise Train Depot.

I’m interested in people as much as I am capturing the beauty of the human body. Being nude in front of my camera is about as open and honest as it gets, but I think photographers are missing something very important when they photograph people in the nude. They are missing the models story, their views on certain topics, and what is important to them. In other words, I want to know about who I’m photographing, not just creating sensual, erotic, and expressive nude art. When I was in college, I was one of the editors for the schools artistic magazines. I can’t even remember what it was called, and I’ve lost quite a bit of my writing talent since then, so this project will not only help me with my photography, but also with my writing skills.

I wanted to briefly mention the kind of photography equipment I’ll be using. For video, which deserves its own post, I’ll be using a Canon Vixia GX10. Normally it’s a monster, with monitors and light blocks, and strobes, but this is the simplest setup. It records video in 4K high definition and 60 frames per second. It’s a really good video recorder.

I’ll also be using my Nikon D500 for photography. It’s professional camera that takes very high quality photographs. For strobes I use a combination of things, from Godox to Promaster.

I’m almost done preparing a small dressing room that lives next to this small photography room in my small apartment, but it’s perfect for what I need for this project.
