Which One Are You?
Most people donโt think about this. They show up. They move through life. They take photos when they need them. They scroll past everything else. They never stop to ask what role theyโre actually playing. But if you pay attentionโreally pay attentionโyou start to see it. There are only a few types of people in any creative space. And youโre one of them.
The Creator
This is the one behind the lens. Or the one building something out of nothing. They donโt wait for permission. They donโt wait to feel ready. They take an ideaโhalf-formed, imperfectโand force it into reality. Creators shape things. They control light, direction, structure. They decide what matters and what doesnโt. Without them, nothing gets made.
The Subject
This is where most people get it wrong. They think being in front of the camera is passive. That itโs about standing there and being told what to do. Itโs not. The subject is the medium. Your body, your posture, your tension, your confidenceโor your lack of itโthatโs the material. Thatโs what the work is built from. A strong subject doesnโt just show up.
They become part of the idea.
The Catalyst
This is the rare one. The catalyst doesnโt just participateโthey change the direction of everything. They walk into a space and suddenly the work is different. Sharper. More dangerous. More real. They donโt need to say much. Sometimes they donโt say anything at all. But they pull something out of the creator that wasnโt there before. You donโt plan for a catalyst. You recognize them when it happens.
The Observer
This is where most people live. Watching. Scrolling. Thinking about it. Almost stepping forwardโbut not quite. Observers convince themselves theyโre โnot ready.โ Not creative. Not the type of person who does something like this. So they stay where itโs safe. They watch other people create something realโฆ and call it interesting. Then move on.
Hereโs the Part That Matters
None of these roles are permanent. You can move between them. Most observers donโt. Most people stay Observers because itโs easier than risking something. Because stepping in front of the camera means being seen. Because participating means letting go of control. Because creating something real means you canโt hide behind excuses anymore.
So Which One Are You?
Be honest. Are you shaping something? Are you part of it? Do you change it? Or are you just watching it happen?
What I Do
BadBoy Photography isnโt built for observers. Itโs an experimental collaboration with people who are willing to step into something realโwhether that means creating it, becoming part of it, or pushing it somewhere unexpected. If that makes you uncomfortable, youโre probably not ready. If it makes you curiousโฆthen you already know where this is going.
